Bentley OpenUtilities CONNECT Edition Help

Using the Unit Assistant

The Unit Assistant provides tools for building new macro units and compatible units and for making changes to existing units by adding or removing their components. Bentley OpenUtilities Designer updates the Units Catalog to reflect your additions and modifications to the Units folder using the Unit Assistant.

The Unit Assistant is accessed by double-clicking an item in the Units view.

With the Unit Assistant, you can perform the following tasks:

  • View a list of components that make up a unit
  • Print a list of the unit's components
  • View a list of other units that contain a particular component
  • Add a component to a unit
  • Remove a component from a unit
  • Edit the properties of a macro unit, compatible unit, material, or custom cost
  • Create a custom unit
  • Promote a private unit to a public unit

The capabilities assigned to your user group will determine which tasks you can perform with public units.

Unit Assistant Window

Item Description

Units Catalog

Displays lists of public compatible units, macro units, materials, and custom costs organized into numeric and alphabetical groups. Private units are listed on the Private page. An item in the Units Catalog can be added to a new or existing unit in two ways: by dragging it from the catalog to the Component List or by using the Copy and Paste commands.

Component List

Shows the components of the current unit. The icon next to each component's name indicates its type (macro unit, compatible unit, material, or custom cost). The Component List serves as a workspace where you can add and remove components.

Reference List

Displays all the units that contain the component selected in the Component List. The Reference List command on the View menu shows and hides the Reference List pane.
